Taiwan's tea history can be dated back to as early as the seventeenth century. The aborigines of Taiwan had a habit of collecting wild camellia tree leaves to make tea drinks. But major production of Taiwanese tea officially began between the eighteen and nineteenth centuries. Two stepbrothers from China's Fujian province gradually introduced the harvesting of tea plants and manufacturing process to the North of Taiwan such as Ruifang district, Muzha in Taipei and Mountain Dong Ding of Nantou County Central Taiwan. By the mid-nineteenth century, a British merchant named John Dodd started exporting Oolong tea to Europe and different countries around the world. It became a great success and grew in popularity.

Li Shan Oolong tea is grown in the mountains of Nantou County where the Atayal tribe of the Taiwanese aborigines originated. Li Shan tea has soft tea leaves, the tea liquor is transparent honey-green in colour, and it produces a rich aroma with a lingering aftertaste. It is considered to be one of the best high mountain Oolong teas.

Shan Lin Xi mountain Oolong tea is grown at an altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level. For hundreds of years, the indigenous people of Taiwan known as the Amis or Pangcah have been known to harvest high mountain tea and use tea as a healing remedy within their tribes. The area of Shan Lin Xi is a natural forest with big temperature differences between day and night, year-round misty. The tea liquor is a bright golden colour, it has a unique elegant aroma with a Sweet taste.

JUSTMAKE Honey Oolong Tea

Honey Oolong tea is grown on mountain Ali Shan in Jiayi County, with an elevation of 1,200 meters above sea level. The processing of this tea is similar to Oriental Beauty oolong, in which the farmers let the leafhoppers known as jassids nibble on the leaves before harvesting for production. The tea leaves starts Oxidizing once the jassids havenibbled on the leaf edges. The leaves are then semifermented and baked, producing a unique roasted honey aroma and a sweet lingering after taste.

Roasted oolong tea is produced in Lugu of Nantou County at an elevation of 600 meters to 1,000 meters above sea level. The Summits are constantly covered by clouds. Irrigations and cultivations are done by the local aborigines, it is then hand-harvested, carefully selecting tea stems with two leaves or three leaves for the production of this tea. Roasted oolong tea liquor has a clear golden amber colour, it has a strong and distinctive roasted aroma.

Taiwan tea no.18 is produced in Yuchi Township of Nantou County at an elevation of 600 meters to 800 meters above sea level. This tea has become more popular these years. It has a cinnamon and peppermint fragrance with a clearamber tea liquor. It is one of the most famous black tea in Taiwan.
